1. Lanikai Beach
Oahu, Hawaii
Lanikai Beach (which means "heavenly sea") is a 1 mile long expanse of
fine sand, ideal for frolicking on the beach or getting the perfect tan.
The lush tropical vegetation, coconut palm trees and sparkling white sand
are very photogenic. The 2 Mokulua Islands can be seen in the distance, and
don't miss the gorgeous sunrises here. The wide protective coral reef
offshore keeps the deep green waters calm and the surf gentle. This beach is
one of the best swimming beaches in Hawaii. This beach is idea for
windsurfing, surfing, sailing, outrigger canoeing, and kayaking.
2. Hanalei Bay Beach, Kauai
Kauai
This is one of loveliest beaches in Hawaii - a 2 mile ling expanse of
white sand with a backdrop of waterfalls and towering green mountain.
Hanalei Bay is a half moon shaped stretch of beach cut away into a steep
cliff, with relatively calm water (at the west end) compared to the
rest of North Shore beaches. There are 2 rivers nearby - Waipa River to the
west and Hanalei River to the east. Surfing is very popular here and a
public boat ramp is available, as is fishing and swimming. There are coral
reefs at each end of the beach. Beautiful honeymoon spot.
3. Punalu'u Beach
The Big Island, Hawaii
A dramatic beach made of black sand makes this one of the most photogenic
beaches in Hawaii. The black sand is actually made from 2 nearby volcanoes,
Mauna Loa and Kilauea. When these volcanoes erupted their lava flowed into
the ocean, breaking the pieces up into the sand that is found here today. "Punalu'u"
literally means "diving spring." The tropical plants, and freshwater pond
made this a popular place for Hawaiians to get fresh water. Snorkelers
enjoy viewing the green sea turtle can be seen here in the active waters.
4. Hookipa Beach
Maui, Hawaii
This gorgeous windswept beach stands out as one of the bests place
in the world for windsurfing. Wind surfers love the view from the water of
the bright white sand ad lush palm trees. This location is host to world
class wind surfing competitions. There is a small area of coral reef here
that makes for a nice swim early in the morning before the waves get choppy.
Due to the strong winds and surf, wind surfing at this beach is best left to
the experts.
5. Ke'e Beach Park
Kauai
This beautiful beach boasts dazzling sunsets and also forms the start of
the Na Pali's Kalalau Trail. Another plus here is the popular snorkeling
are, with crisp clear waters and multitudes of colorful tropical fish. The
beach setting itself is lush, with abundant coconut palms, guava and
ironwood trees. There is also another train to a meadow that contains a rock
alter to Lohi'au's Hula, the god of manna power). Legend has it the Laka
(goddess of the Hula) first started dancing in this location. Sometimes
